Johnny Chang & Mike Majkowski – lllogical Harmonies
MIKE MAJKOWSKI – Holds an active interest in extending and refining possibilities of sound production for the double bass. His work primarily focuses on repetitive structures and their mutations, relationships between stillness and pulse, as well as the spectral qualities of double bass resonance.
Active across a wide spectrum of contemporary music encompassing improvisation and composition, he has been involved in a diverse array of projects since 2001. Aside from Illogical Harmonies, Mike performs as a soloist, as well as with Lotto (with Lukasz Rychlicki and Pawel Szpura), Hailu Mergia’s Trio (with Tony Buck), Blip (with Jim Denley), Roil (with Chris Abrahams and James Waples), The Splitter Orchester, and recently in a new project performing a piece for microtonal double bass and microtonal bass flute with Rebecca Lane (composed by Catherine Lamb).

Johnny and Mike are two musicians based in Berlin. They formed ‘illogical harmonies’ in 2014. With a focus on collective listening, the music of this duo highlights string resonance and follows deceptively simple structures. Their debut album ‘Volume’ is set to be released in June 2016 by Another Timbre.
Johnny and Mike are both members of Berlin-based collective ‘Konzert Minimal’ – interpreting and performing music centred around the organisation of sound and silence, as well as extending beyond the conventional confinements of traditional instrumental hierarchy.
